While gathering geological samples in the seafloor, among the NOAA’s remotely-controlled subs stumbled across a cryptic “ghostlike” octopod.
Most unusually – aside from the unique cuteness of the creature – the octopod is considered to be an unknown species, maybe belonging to an undescribed genus.
On its site, the NOAA said: “A distinguishing feature was the suckers were in one, rather than two, string on every arm.
They included, “The look of the creature was unlike any released records and was the deepest observation ever for such a cephalopod.”
